			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p align="left"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-108" title="wrestler2" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/wrestler2.png" alt="wrestler2" width="198" height="137" />You are the <strong>manager</strong> of a potential new star <strong>wrestler</strong>, he/she is an unknown, but it&#8217;s your time to create them, give them a stage name, give them a custom appearance, from difference clothes, physique, props and controlling the entire appearance with one of the best and fullest character customers on the platform. You can also fill out their biography, what they are “<em>doing</em>” and their “<em>saying</em>” is, as well as their special move, which I&#8217;ll talk about more Later.</p>
<p align="left">Wrestling matches are done in a <strong>turn based</strong> style, at the start of each match, each wrestler starts off with <strong>100</strong> “<em>Health</em>”, and <strong>50</strong> “<em>Momentum</em>” each.; With Each round, You can try one move after another, until you fail, or your opponent(s) blocks a specific move of yours, then you finish your turn, and it’s your opponent, and you have the choice of blocking a move.</p>
<p align="left">
Each of your Moves not only does it damage your opponent (and sometimes yourself), but also it will effect the momentum, so a successful move will each alter your momentum, and decrease momentum of the same value to your opponent (min/max of 0 and 100).<br />
The opposite is true for a failed move, and even more for a block, and this hurts the player who fails a move by damage and momentum. Each move takes up an unknown amount of how much &#8220;energy&#8221; you have for that Round, and it averages out that 3-6 moves can be done per round, depending if you use a few “<em>Big</em>” moves, or a lot of “<em>Small</em>” moves, which is usually valued by how much damage they do and how accurate.<br />
You start off with just a couple of moves, and with &#8220;<em>Wrestler Bucks</em>&#8221; gained in the game from wins, you can get a lot of moves which some fans of wrestling will recognize. There are many types of moves, from the <strong>low risk</strong> moves, which are good for starting your Round off, some are <strong>high risk</strong> and best when you have the advantage with high momentum.
</p>
<p align="left">Do you go it alone, or Join a &#8220;<em>Stable</em>&#8221; or create your own? The choice is yours, but options are there for which ever you choose.</p>
<p align="left">The <strong>Stable Matches</strong> get really competitive, they are essentially still single, one on one matches, but all your team mates who entered, also have 1 on 1 matches with someone in the opposing stable. Winning a point for your side is done by winning each of those singles matches. This is where the &#8220;distract the ref&#8221;, and the &#8220;illegal&#8221; moves tend to come into use most often; this is where a stable member can run in on another stable members match and distract for you. Gives you a slight edge to be able to access this &#8220;illegal&#8221; moves for one hit.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>Tag Team Matches</strong> come in later, and became a great addition, and are a really fun type of wrestling, allowing for a pair to play together, and &#8220;tag&#8221; each other in and out of the turn based combat system. This an already interesting combination of more than just 1 vs 1, and require a bit more planning with your tag team partner, than Stable Matches. Other than the tagging in an out of active wrestler, the game is played in a very simular way.</p>
<p align="left">There are a few free items, that effect your appearance, but most require using “<em>Wrestler Bucks</em>” which is gained mostly for each wrestler match won, likewise winning overall a <strong>stable</strong> match / <strong>tag team</strong> Matches gives small amount of points as well.</p>
<p align="left">
<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-94" title="facebook" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/facebook.png" alt="facebook" width="66" height="25" />My Profile on <a title="Wrestler Facebook App" rel="external nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=14507320155">Wrestler</a>, my character <a href="http://apps.facebook.com/wrestle/Wrestlers%21show.fb?id=505911149">Dev-Lethos</a></p>
<p align="left">
As I mentioned earlier is the ability to create a <strong>custom move</strong>, designing it&#8217;s risk factor, momentum change, damage done, and accuracy, this shows off how each move in the game is done, and keeps things balanced. With more damage, comes more risk, often with the chances it won&#8217;t be as accurate unless you have the advantage. This gets added to your profile within wrestler, and shows you&#8217;ve reached a milestone in the game to acheive this expensive Move.</p>
<p>Your <strong>momentum</strong> is a big part of when to use majority of the high risk moves, and when to it&#8217;s wiser to use low risk moves, and of course the opponents health when to go for the <strong>pin</strong>, or to try to use a <strong>sleeper</strong> if your feeling lucky, since your opponents health doesn’t need to be as low, but it’s still unlikely to give you an early <strong>win</strong>.</p>
<p>Each move have a accuracy value (chance of success) and associated with it is usually an approximated risk, and it&#8217;s usually linked to <strong>damage</strong> done and <strong>momentum change</strong> to the opponent and yourself. Being <strong>turn based</strong>, when it&#8217;s your turn you are able to keep doing moves while you succeed in performing a move. Before it&#8217;s your opponents move (this includes asking for a match), you get the chance to block one move that you have against the opponent using it, and counts similar to a <strong>failure</strong>, but more damaging to your opponent if it blocks.</p>
<p><strong>Wrestlers</strong>, are ranked by their <strong>Wins</strong>/<strong>Loss</strong> in their <strong>networks</strong> and by all wrestler users on Facebook, there is a heavier impression on <em>recent battles</em> to the rank and influenced more by a <em>win/loss</em> by someone significantly stronger/weaker than yourself. Those in the top # ranks of a network can challenge the current reigning <strong>Champion</strong> for the <strong>belt</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Training</strong> can be done to improve the <strong>accuracy</strong>, <strong>defence</strong> against, the <strong>damage</strong> done, and <strong>stamina</strong> (<em>damage reduction</em>) of each move. This is possible every <strong>20 hours</strong>, with extra wrestlers points you can spent to have another training session, with it getting far more expensive to do it more than once per day (example: <strong>35</strong> Wrestler bucks for the first, <strong>250</strong> for the second…)</p>
<p>There is a lot of the <strong>competitive</strong> nature in Wrestler that comes with the goal of winning the <strong>Network / Country</strong> belt that your in, or even going for the famed <strong>Facebook</strong> Champions Belt.</p>
<p>The <strong>Social side</strong> of built in Stables giving wrestlers a place to form groups is a real essential part which makes this game great.<br />
<strong>Balance</strong> is tough in this game, but is pulled well with balancing the moves well, and insuring moves are used more realistically. With <strong>luck</strong> playing a big part along with a little <strong>strategy</strong>, this is a <em>very</em> entertaining game, to be played either all day (haha) or casually.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p align="left"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-95" title="nations1" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/nations1.png" alt="nations1" width="150" height="150" />You are in control of a your very own <strong>Nation</strong>; you decide the <strong>fate</strong> and major <em>decisions</em> right from it&#8217;s beginning, in every aspect of that Nation. You Start by selecting a few options to <em>customise</em> the aspects of which your nation will be known, for example, your <strong>Nations Title</strong>, and <strong>Leaders Title</strong>, <strong>Political</strong> <em>choices</em>. Later on you can give your nation a nation; <strong>Motto, Anthem, Flower, Animal </strong><span>and much more.</span></p>
<p>Some new things like Additional Flags and Titles to be <em>unlocked</em> and I will explain that shortly, and they have good open submission for new <strong>titles</strong>, and for the names for anything relating to your nation on the discussion boards (<strong>Nations</strong>).</p>
<p align="left"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-94" title="facebook" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/facebook.png" alt="facebook" width="66" height="25" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=7219203953">Nations</a> ~FB Application &#8211; Nations;<br />
My Profile: “My Leader”, <a href="http://apps.facebook.com/nations/505911149">Emperor Christopher Bourton</a></p>
<p>One of the first things you do is choosing your <strong>flag</strong>, there are a lot of default ones, and a lot of <em>country flags</em> are there already, which can be chosen from the start. <strong>Custom Flags</strong>, like many niche features are something to be <em>unlocked</em>, so you can upload a flag of your <strong>own</strong>.</p>
<p>You can also choose how often you get you <strong>nations issues</strong>, for you to decide to <em>resolve</em>, and even ignore, so might want to get only 2 a week if you play <em>casually</em>, or once a day for those <em>active</em> every day.<br />
You answer <strong>theoretical questions</strong> about running your nation, at multiple levels of Leadership, from the top leaderships decisions, down to the local governors and it effects multiple stats in your nation, <strong>core vales</strong>, from multiple Statistical values, of <strong>Education</strong> to <strong>Technology</strong>, to <strong>Political Freedom</strong>. This in turn effects <strong>population growth</strong>, <strong>Military Strength</strong>, <strong>Average Wealth</strong> and <strong>Employment Index</strong>. Answering these has a positive and/or negative usually on multiple statistics in your nation, and you can even choose to dismiss the issue <em>entirely</em>.<br />
I like this helps for those who log in once a day or those who just on the weekends, to have the <strong>flexibility</strong>, to not be penalised if they miss an issue. They will also Collect up if you miss them, and you can answer them all at once, but it will recognise if you aren&#8217;t logging on very often, and lower the nations issues frequency automatically.</p>
<p>This can be taken serious, or just as a bit of <strong>fun</strong>, but these do shape the statistics of your country, which help rank you against other Nations.</p>
<p>Along with the Ability to effect your nation with how you run it from answering “<em>issues</em>” you can declare others as <strong>ally</strong> or <strong>enemy</strong>, and with many nations, from many different governmental, political, and general way of life, in this game, it gives a great element for the creation of the “<strong>Clans/Guilds/Groups/Alliance</strong>” to come together to fight the other “<strong>Clans/Guilds/Groups/Alliance</strong>” with opposing ideals.</p>
<p>There are a few niche features to be “<em>unlocked</em>”, and they require nation points, Points are gained by doing issues and a few other things in the game while playing nations. So it&#8217;s good that inviting friends really isn&#8217;t a required part of the game, and you will get “<em>points</em>“ gradually over time.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a <strong>brilliant idea</strong>, and makes you keep coming back each day to take care of the “<em>issues</em>” (<strong>questions</strong>) to help progress your nation into being even better. Like many of these games it has a score and <strong>ranking system</strong> to compare against others, and a recent edition to really come into play with the <em>ally/enemy</em> feature with the soon to be implemented <strong>War sub-game</strong>, where some form of combat will be possible between <strong>nations</strong>.</p>
<p>There is a very <em>strong</em> <strong>role-playing</strong> community within nations, and becoming part of an “<strong>Alliance</strong>” of <em>Nations</em> will really make this game a <strong>great</strong> experience.</p>
<p>There has been rumors of a “<em>war sub-game</em>”, if it is <strong>implemented</strong> it will be a really nice addition, but this game has succeed so well on just comment boxes, and discussion boards role-playing, and creating their own events and content, and of course their own Fictional wars role-played out without any help needed by the developers..</p>
<p>I have played this Application for approximately 1 year, and I have to say, the best part of this Application is the role-playing community, it really makes this game great.<br />
<strong>CB gives this App; </strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-87" title="google-adsense" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/google-adsense.png" alt="google-adsense" width="162" height="96" />New Developer, or Tired or the poor quality Ads, or just want reliable payments, think you could be doing better monetising with Advertising?</p>
<p><strong>Listen up!</strong></p>
<p>Google Adsense, believe it or not is used by a huge portion of Application Developers on Facebook for many reasons, even though technically Google Adsense, isn&#8217;t designed for Social Sites like Facebook, and thus won&#8217;t always approve. Applications on Facebook is a complex juggle to manage to make profitable, using Adverts is just one of them. “Virtual Currency” is a popular choice to go in addition, but thats a topic for another Article.</p>
<p>Simple reasons why FB Developers usually pick Google over the rest is:</p>
<ul>
<li>Huge Database of Quality Ads</li>
<li>Ease and Speed of Content driven Ads</li>
<li>Reliability</li>
<li>Well known Payment system</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The Details</strong><br />
I&#8217;m not going to try hide if from you, Google TOS doesn&#8217;t like you using IFrames to display Ads, but there is simply put no other way.<br />
It shouldn&#8217;t put you off, when I personally as well as many other Developers big and small, have used Google Adsense for as much as 1 year+ without concerns.<br />
Facebook though is Partnered with Google Adsense, so I&#8217;d like to think they appreciate the extra revenue, just as much as we do, so heres the warning.</p>
<p><strong>Warning:</strong></p>
<p>You run the risk of having the account suspended potentially, since Gooogle Adsense TOS does not permit the use of IFrames to display their ads. <strong>so you take my advice at your own risk.</strong> Don&#8217;t over do it with Ads on your Canvas page, I recommend one, at most 2 per page, and the pages which you put the ads on within the frames, ensure their is a lot of content, and not just keywords there.<br />
<strong>Setup</strong></p>
<p>Google does require you to have a website you own, that it will find acceptable to put Google ads on, that it is Google bots can view it. It also has to adheres to their policies so only having a Facebook Application won&#8217;t work for getting you in the door.</p>
<p>You need to have something more than a Facebook App like your company or personal website to point Google at registration, then you are free to use the ads anywhere you want, including your Facebook Application.<br />
If you don’t, write up some basic HTML/PHP based website with a few pages, and it should be enough to keep Google happy, or even start a Blog, WordPress templates, are very easy to setup.</p>
<p>After that, It&#8217;s not hard, just a bit more than your standard IFrame code, but allows for far more targeting, and has the ability to show a higher quality of ads. Which if you use the right key words, can provide you with not only quality looking ads, but high paying ones.</p>
<p>They do both Ads in Image/video and Text Based. You can even choose to display only one or the other, it defaults to display both. Saying that, most ads which are done which are images are done on the bigger ad sizes, so you won&#8217;t get many if any if you rely on small ad boxes. So as most, will want those image based Ads, you&#8217;ll want to use the bigger boxes in each of the categories, which are.</p>
<p><strong>Headers &#8211; </strong>728&#215;90 and 468&#215;60</p>
<p><strong>Towers &#8211; </strong>120&#215;600 and 160&#215;600</p>
<p><strong>Rectangles &#8211; </strong>300&#215;250 and 336&#215;280</p>
<p><strong>When setting up each of your Ads, make sure to make them &#8220;Targeted-able&#8221; for Advertisers, this has seen to increase profits for Ads</strong>.</p>
<h2>How to do it in Simple</h2>
<p>You start by Creating a simple htm page, on your server, and has relevant content on it, and the Adverts you want to display, all should display and be related to your Application itself.<br />
You then create a second page to view that page through &#8220;Frames&#8221;, and will look almost identical to the 1st page.<br />
Then you need to insert a final piece of Code into your Application to allow you to see these Page(s) via Facebook, through the use of &#8220;iFrames&#8221;, but without it effecting what Ads are shown.<br />
This only works for Canvas Pages inside an Application, you can&#8217;t place it anywhere else to display Ads.</p>
<h2>Real Example</h2>
<p>*header.htm* &#8211; The Actual Ads page with the key words, and targeted references, and of course the google code itself.<br />
<a href="http://www.ssdc.com/cbourton/includes/bl-header.htm">Google / Adbrite code</a> &#8211; Example shown is used in my App</p>
<p>Code Example Below for (header.htm).</p>
<blockquote>
<pre>&lt;<span class="start-tag">html</span>&gt;
&lt;<span class="start-tag">head</span>&gt;
&lt;/<span class="end-tag">head</span>&gt;
&lt;body style="background: <span style="color: #ff0000;">#000000</span>; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px;"&gt;

<span style="color: #ff0000;">&lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt;&lt;!--</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">google_ad_client = "pub-*****************";</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">/* FB-Header Ad - 728x90 */</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">google_ad_slot = "*************";</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">google_ad_width = 728;</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">google_ad_height = 90;</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">//--&gt;</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">&lt;/script&gt;</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">&lt;script type="text/javascript"</span>
<span style="color: #ff0000;">src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"&gt;</span>

&lt;b&gt;<span style="color: #ff0000;">keywords</span>&lt;/b&gt;
&lt;/body&gt;
&lt;<span class="start-tag">/html</span>&gt;</pre>

<h2>Real Example</h2>
<p>* header-frame * &#8211; Ads Preparation page has a frame displaying the Actual Ads Page ( I put keywords here too )</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ssdc.com/cbourton/includes/bl-header-frame.htm">Google / Adbrite frame</a> &#8211; Example shown is used in my App</p>
<p>Code Example Below (for header-frame.htm).</p>
<blockquote>

&lt;h5&gt;<span style="color: #ff0000;">keywords</span>&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;b&gt;<span style="color: #ff0000;">keywords</span>&lt;/b&gt;

&lt;/html&gt;</pre>
</blockquote>
<h2>Real Example</h2>
<p>*Facebook App Canvas Page &#8211; Include php file or similar* &#8211; Insert this code as FB:Iframe code on the Canvas Page.</p>
<p><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/battlelords/">Battlelords FB App</a> &#8211; Example is in the header</p>
<blockquote>
<pre>&lt;fb:iframe src=<span style="color: #ff0000;">*server address* /includes/header-frame.htm</span>
id="<span style="color: #ff9900;">games-header</span>" name="<span style="color: #ff9900;">games-header</span>"
marginwidth="<span style="color: #ff9900;">0</span>" marginheight="<span style="color: #ff9900;">0</span>" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"
height="<span style="color: #ff0000;">90</span>" width="<span style="color: #ff0000;">728</span>" /&gt;</pre>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Explained&#8230; </strong></p>
<p>The Code Colored in Red needs to be changed to something specific to your Adverts, the ones done in orange are default settings, but I advise you tweak them a little to your liking. I hope my code is self-explanatory enough, afterall this is a Tip for Developers of Applications only,  if you are unsure or stuck on about anything feel free to contact me.</p>

Facebook Fan pages, just got a great new feature, that has been long time overdue! &#8230; Can&#8217;t think what it is?</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll tell you, we&#8217;ve got an invite page, built directly into the fan page, it comes in the form of &#8220;suggest to friends&#8221;.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s any promotional guy/girls dream, Fan pages are a wonderful way to grab that social marketting foothold inside Facebook, like no other, with one small problem, how to advertising it, without it costing your a small fortune. Of course not everyone has a fan page to display there corporation, franchise or product, maybe you just a favourite thing you do, those are very popular too, and are a great way to find others who like it too!</p>
<p>What makes this even better is this invite page is (currently) unlimited, you can invite litterally hundreds of friends just like when you do events, so go ahead invite your entire friends list, and encourage any and all dedicated fans to do the same! With the news-feed aka the &#8220;Stream&#8221; acting as it is, a sudden surge in new fans, will encourage to become a popular item of the day, which will only increase it&#8217;s visibility in that little right side-bar on FB&#8217;s home page, which is double social advertising.</p>
<p>Check it out here this is my &#8221; <a title="Chris Bourton Fan Page" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christopher-Bourton/36282389905">Chris Bourton Fan Page</a> &#8220;&#8230; self-promotion I know, but hey if you are reading this, and thinking thats awesome new feature, and want to try it out, takes just 5 seconds to become a fan and maybe you&#8217;ll learn about my newest developer tip before everyone else. Latest news is only useful, if you find out about it early, and before everyone else!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s this simple.</p>
<ul>
<li>Visit the  &#8220;Stream&#8221; / &#8220;Wall&#8221; page of a Fan page.</li>
<li>Click &#8220;Suggest to friends&#8221;</li>
<li>Start selecting friends to suggest to (it works just like an Invite)</li>
<li>Click &#8220;Send Invitations&#8221; once you&#8217;ve selected as many friends as you want to tell.</li>
</ul>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-59" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/tumbleweed.jpg" alt="tumbleweed" width="124" height="121" /><br />
Application Verification Program was I beleive Suppose to be going ahead end of Feburary, that Went and Gone, it&#8217;s now nearing the end of March, and we still see the Tumble weed fly by&#8230;</p>
<p>There comes a Glimer of Hope by Monica over at Facebook, but don&#8217;t get too happy&#8230; It seems we could still be waiting Weeks.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Regarding timeline, we expect to announce the first set of verified applications within the next couple of weeks. This announcement will be coupled with the benefits which include badging and special highlighting in the Application Directory, and bucket boosts for requests and notification allocations. These applications will also have the opportunity to participate in marketing and press opportunities.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Well That Doesn&#8217;t come as a bit of a kick in the nutts as after week or two of outcries for our money back, rumours the Verification Program was cancelled, and all we get is, wait a few more weeks.Also The benefits, I&#8217;m really not sure thats worth the $375 (yearly) the developers have paid upfront for.</p>
<p>To explain that;</p>
<ul>
<li> Application Directory changes
<ul>
<li>Unless it&#8217;s getting a major redesign, this won&#8217;t help Apps majorily.</li>
<li>If it is a large App, like the vast majority of Verified ones are, it&#8217;s going to get decent traffic because of that alone via this Directory already.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Bucket Boosts
<ul>
<li>Request increases is laughable, it&#8217;s ignored already, why would we want to spam more</li>
<li>Notifications Fair enough, these are faily reliable, since Good Apps, already hit the max, due to being well responded by the user, but we cover a spam problem again.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Press and Marketting
<ul>
<li>This is what is interesting&#8230; It works both ways, we have been ignored for months, then they expect us to speak well of them? I doubt that will happen.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<p>In short, I have a feeling there will be alot of mixed Feelings over this.</p>
<p>Some will feel happy it&#8217;s finally going through, others will be angry, they are have been promised alot, but getting very little.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="size-full wp-image-48 alignright" src="http://chris.bourton.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/cohler-zuckerberg.jpg" alt="cohler-zuckerberg" width="340" height="224" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><em><br />
The feedback on Facebook&#8217;s new look, which emphasizes a stream of Twitter-like status updates, is almost universally, negative.<br />
Why isn&#8217;t CEO Mark Zuckerberg listening to users? Because he doesn&#8217;t have to, he&#8217;s told employees.<br />
A tipster leaked that Zuckerberg sent an email to Facebook staff reacting to criticism of the changes: &#8220;He said something like &#8216;the most disruptive companies don&#8217;t listen to their customers.&#8217;&#8221;<br />
Also quoted by another Tipster, who has seen the email says, Zuckerberg implied that companies were &#8220;stupid&#8221; for &#8220;listening to their customers.&#8221; The anti-customer diktat has many Facebook employees up in arms, we hear.<br />
</em>
</p>
<p><strong>I&#8217;ve said this before, and I like this example I&#8217;m about to share since it demonstrates a good point on how even a good Francise, can fail with bad design choices can making a big difference at the top. Just because you&#8217;ve made a huge name for yourself, like Facebook has done for Zuckerberg, doesn&#8217;t mean you can do what ever you want with design changes and think your users will eventually love it. Sure Ignoring users outcries can work, if it really is an improvement, but removing, or simplifying something is rarely ever considered an improvement, if your user base being as big as it is, loved it how it was.</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure <strong>Sony Online Entertainment</strong> thought the same, when they did the same with <strong>&#8220;Star Wars Galaxies&#8221;</strong>. A huge MMO, gleaming with the potential of success, taking on a license to the one of the biggest game franchises ever.<br />
A few years back now, at it&#8217;s peak had a shot at being a rival to &#8220;<strong>World of Warcraft&#8221;</strong>. Star Wars Galaxies was a complex game, nothing compared to “<strong>Eve Online</strong>” of course, but it still had a very nice character development structure, which allowed for a lot of flexibility, and players loved to freedom to choose how they did things with their characters, with the awe of Unlocking a Jedi.<br />
World of Warcraft was the simple but well designed Behemoth, that sprang out of a classic style of War craft, it&#8217;s simple and easy design has stayed true to it&#8217;s self, and allowed for an easy uptake by a wide range of users, which lead to it&#8217;s eventual dominance over the MMO Market (personally never liked it, but appreciated it for what it was).</p>
<p>SWG was doing well, slowly growing, Until they made the fatal mistake of simplifying a lot of their features, character development, and general game-play to be more like WoW, and take a style nearer to their Console based quick and easy SW games and of course WoW.<br />
<strong>The Players hated</strong> losing all that custom character development they had, and later on they made more changes again in the same direction, which eventually killed the game.<br />
SWG Emulated versions sprang up all over the place, from the Pre-9 Publish era, and actually some have had some success, and been in touch with Ex-Team members that worked at the company, who left in disgust over the changes.</p>
<p><strong>Shaking things up</strong> by adding features is always good, it&#8217;s that Simple&#8230; (this wasn&#8217;t the case with FB here &#8211; more was removed)<br />
When you have Millions of users, and you are most definitely don&#8217;t want to start copying the competition, just because they are getting success, with a simpler design.<br />
Stick to what your users like, and actually ADD to it, don&#8217;t Remove features. Give Options, Widgets, if you can&#8217;t control your jealously over another company filling a hole in your market.<br />
Just accept with their design maybe it won&#8217;t work for you and yours users, but forcing a design change on a Multi-million user base is never going to go well, if you&#8217;ve removed something.</p>
<p>Assuming I&#8217;m right in saying this, FB tried to buy out Twitter, that failed/refused. It&#8217;s the Latest Fad, something new and fun to play with, with no ads, it can&#8217;t support it self, it relying on investment to be propped up.</p>
<p><strong>Maybe that didn&#8217;t go over well,</strong> so jealous of the success, decide well They&#8217;ll take parts of what they felt made it a success, and put it directly into FB.<br />
Have to remove features to do that of course, but Twitter can do it, so Can we type of attitude is being followed here, and we&#8217;ll have the same success.</p>
<p>What they&#8217;ve forgotten, is FB isn&#8217;t new, it&#8217;s in terms of the Web, it&#8217;s quiet well established Site, and Doing a change like this, won&#8217;t garner the same success as a new site, that has early on was very well catered to the needs and wants of Investors, and promoters, while giving a simple and easy to use &#8220;playground&#8221; for users.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not unusual, big business doing buy-outs and if they they fail to achieve it, they&#8217;ll just try to beat them at what they wanted to buy if they can&#8217;t buy them out and have it for themselves.<br />
<strong>He&#8217;s 24, right?</strong> About my age, and has had huge success at a comparative young age, for what has been achieved and it&#8217;s bound to go to his head.</p>
<p>Got Microsoft funding FB to keep it going, since the server, admin and general up-keep costs are reported to be too much to be covered by Ads apparently. Which is a little scary how much their bills must be, and how poorly their FB Ad network is performing&#8230; Simple, tone That down and just bring Up Google Adsense; You&#8217;ve already got Microsoft Tower Banners, it won&#8217;t be that bad.</p>
<p>He probably thinks he&#8217;s getting a free ride with Microsoft throwing money at FB to balance the books, and that&#8217;s all it&#8217;s doing, there is apparently no real profit at FB, it&#8217;s all a lot of money going in, and a very similar money being sucked up again.<br />
<strong>Whats Crazy is this design change</strong>, actually puts more of a strain on the servers, a &#8220;Live-Feed&#8221; design, would theoretically be more intensive to the system, and that is easily proven by the spammy-ness increasing over this past week, I get a lot more messages, and news feeds appearing. A &#8220;Live-Feed&#8221; design encourages more activity, when Feeds aren&#8217;t Properly selectively chosen and users and Applications don&#8217;t have to jump through so many hoops to get noticed, because users have less control over what&#8217;s seen, so they just are saying same or similar things over and over again, or sometimes just non-sense, just to be noticed in the sea of “spam”.</p>
<p>While the Appearance might have tried to go for the simple Twitter look, the behind the scenes stuff, FB Platform was not originally designed to be like this, and I would bet has made more intensive than the old one and, it would explain the time outs many users have reported, that can&#8217;t be explained by coding bugs.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Love or Hate?</h2>
<p>I would love to try make a Unbiased review of the changes that have gone on in the last few days. I think anyone who has seen it, and seen the huge outcries by the vocal majority has there opinion, people do certainly love or hate. Apps have even popped up, stating just how much the majority seem to love/hate it, and Today it seems like hate was winning with a 92% to 8% result, with 1000&#8217;s of comments.</p>
<p>To give the design changes it&#8217;s dues, it has made small improvements in the area of Pushing select few &#8220;feeds&#8221; done by users, and I say select, because the feed controls have gone. FB have attempted a more streamlined, real time approach, many have felt fueled by Twitter envy and/or  jealousy, is there any base in this, I&#8217;m not sure, but to remove so many useful, and love features to do this, has not been appreciated at all.</p>
<p>Features Gone? yes, the filters seem to be hidden, and even then, it seems the filter is massively in control by FB. This is a lost feature, users are no longer in full control over there feeds, and if they try to control their Feed the best they can do is attempt to entirely block the App, and bugs have appeared that doesn&#8217;t even work&#8230; oops?</p>
<p>Apps seem to having varying experiences with this feed change;</p>
<p>For Most apps, this change has incurred a massive design change, to even come close to recovering from a lose of feed visibility. As a developer and in talks with many others feed traffic that maintains activity and application growth via user triggered events has gone. We now been left with often difficult to use, and require the user to fill in the forms to access the &#8220;Publisher&#8221;, handing over the feeds to them, rather than the stability of it coming from an App. There are some exceptions that some apps have exploited, but for the most part, Apps have hit a big brick wall with this.</p>
<p>This leads to a bigger problem, as a developer we have a few ways to get new users in general&#8230;</p>
<ul>
<li>Invites &#8211; this is one of the biggest ones to be ignored now, it was abused and spammed, and now users acceptance rate is terrible.</li>
<li>Feeds &#8211; Lost, difficult to use, and often filtered, it&#8217;s hidden and we&#8217;ve lost the different formats (Full, pictures etc)</li>
<li>Profile badges &#8211; hidden away by tabs, it&#8217;s visibility dropped with the last design change, and lost it even further with the &#8220;Fan page&#8221; design update.</li>
<li>Notifications &#8211; Last remaining working option, which will be spammed, abused with the others being reduced.</li>
</ul>
<p>What was worse about this update, was that it came without warning, bug ridden, and came incomplete, removing, hidden or broken features for Apps, and users, around 6 months since the last one which removed just a few virality options for Apps, with this one removing even more. Now we see FB encouraging even more there FB Connect platform&#8230; it&#8217;s all very suspicious&#8230;</p>
<p>Agree? Disagree?</p>
<p>How to recover from this?</p>
<p>It will require more App developers sticking together, relying less on FB, and instead working ourselves to give ourselves traffic rather expecting FB to help us at all, even though 3rd party Developers made FB is what it is today. I&#8217;ll have to give props to Word Hunt, by a developer I know as ZeroStar, he has done a good job in creating traffic to Apps and Fan pages via his app, that I admit goes beyound expectations, and entirely free. Game Review soon to come!</p>

<p class="style2">This has helped me expanded my Portfolio, and with that have a wide range of Projects, from Web, Phones, and Game Development on various platforms, and in multiple programming languages.</p>
<p class="style2">I not only have my own, but have taken on joint ventures with other companies to form a larger Development team. This allows me, more realistic time frames to complete bigger, working with differently experienced people and usually more fun Game related projects, but freedom in knowing we still have my own games.</p>
<p class="style2">It&#8217;s a vital thing for any Game Developer / Entrepreneur to still have his/her own Projects, while working together with others, not only gives variety to your work, but helps make work in general for income more reliable. Consulting with others is easily one of my favourite past times that can be classed as work, discussing a new idea, and letting it flow out, there is to me nothing better.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="style2">Social Network games (Facebook / Bebo Applications), There are a lot of them, but what are the truly good games yet relatively unknown and/or yet to have a huge player base?</p>
<p class="style1" style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://www.infinitepixelstudios.com/assets/facebook.png" alt="Facebook Logo" width="66" height="25" /> <img src="http://www.infinitepixelstudios.com/assets/bebo.png" alt="Bebo Logo" width="50" height="25" /></p>
<p>By Good games, the games I end up reviewing are not a definitive list, they are my experience playing them, and liking them for what they went out to achieve.<br />
As an Expectation, they should reach a good level between being able to play casually and &#8230; the addicts (yes you!), and being fun, interacting with the social side, where usually challenging comparing to Facebook.</p>
<p>The vast majority of the games I will spend time reviewing, are yes those more complex “Apps”.<br />
Saying that, I have tended to avoid the super popular “Apps”, and rather focus on games which are good, and have yet to get a huge following of users.</p>
<p>Firstly, I&#8217;m going to admit, I&#8217;ve played a lot of games, most was for research, but the ones I continued to play was because I enjoyed them in my spare time. Now I&#8217;ve started to give out my opinion of these games.</p>
<p>As a Games Developer myself, and an Avid Gamer, hopefully, I can give you the Players of the “Apps” worthwhile advice/suggestions on games to play, and the Developers of the “Apps”, the my professional opinion of their games.</p>
<p>For the Statistical data on the game, I will be using a relatively simple rating score out of 5, comparing that to the review on the “Apps” page if it has one, and including a rough daily active users.</p>
